Fashion and beauty notes
By Alev Aktar and Amy Diluna
December 6, 2001
When Lisa Ling was a young girl, she never saw anyone in fashion
magazines or
on "The Brady Bunch" and "Three's Company"
who looked like her.
"At a certain level, I couldn't relate," writes the
TV host in the foreword
of "Asian Beauty" (HarperResource, $30), a new book
by makeup artist Margaret Kimura.
Kimura obviously felt the same way as Ling, and her book is devoted
to
teaching Asian women how to celebrate their beauty. She covers
everything from makeup colors and application to diet, with an
emphasis on self-esteem.
A chapter titled "Role Models" highlights successful,
beautiful Asian women, including former model Joomi Ha and designer/stylist
Jeannie Harth. The book is available on amazon.com and in bookstores
near you.
